Overriding NPA-NXX

NPA-NXXClosed NPA (Numbering Plan Area) is the 3-digit area code. NXX is the first three digits of a seven-digit telephone number that identifies the specific telephone company central office that serves that number. For example, the NPA/NXX of the telephone number 845-426-3790 is 845-426, with 845 being the NPA, and 426 the NXX. refers to the numbering plan area (NPA) and central office code (NXX) of a telephone number. It is a 10-digit numerical identifier used in the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) to uniquely identify a specific geographic area and telephone exchange within that area. The NPA represents the area code, while the NXX represents the central office code. Together, they help route and identify telephone calls within a specific region.

This is useful when the default geocode (jurisdiction) assignment of a phone number needs to be changed to an alternate location. An NPA-NXX can be partially or fully overridden. The NPA-NXX screen is used to add, edit, and delete your NPA-NXX overrides.

ClosedAdding an NPA-NXX Override

  1. Select Menu > Overrides > Rule and Rate Overrides.
  2. Click NPA-NXX.
  3. Click . The Add a NPANXX Override dialog displays.
  4. Enter the NPA-NXX information in the NPA-NXX field.
  5. Click Lookup beside the Override Geocode field. The Find Geocodes dialog displays.
  6. Select as many of the following items as you can. The more items you select, the more accurate the geocode will be.
    • Country (US or Canada)
    • State
    • County
    • City
    • District
  7. Click Search. The geocodes that match your selections display in the grid.
  8. Select the correct geocode from the results.
  9. Click Save & Go Back. The Find Geocodes dialog closes and the Override Geocode field is populated with the correct geocode.
  10. Select the dates for the Effective date and End date fields.
  11. Enter a reason for the override.
  12. Click Save.

ClosedEditing an NPA-NXX Override

  1. Select Menu > Overrides > Rule and Rate Overrides.
  2. Click NPA-NXX.
  3. Scroll down, and select the state that contains the NPA-NXX override you want to change. The dialog for that state appears.
  4. Click next to the appropriate override you want to change.
  5. Edit the Override geocode, Reason, and End date information as required.
  6. Click Save.

ClosedDeleting an NPA-NXX Override

  1. Select Menu > Overrides > Rule and Rate Overrides.
  2. Click NPA-NXX.
  3. Scroll down, and select the state that contains the NPA-NXX override you want to delete. The dialog for that state appears.
  4. Click next to the NPA-NXX override to be deleted.
  5. Click Delete on the confirmation dialog.
